I am in no way a fitness guru, but I am committed to the idea of bettering myself – mind, body and spirit. Last year God blessed me with a lot of free time, so I decided to use the opportunity to commit to working out three to four days a week. When it comes to working out, I have tried just about everything. I’ve tried, kickboxing, hip-hop dance aerobics, barre classes, Pilates, yoga and more but nothing seemed to keep me interested or fit my budget. Last year however, I started attending boot camp classes and I haven’t looked back. The instructor led class consist of one hour of high intensity interval training (HIIT) in a group setting. In each class there are targeted areas of the body of which the exercises are centered around. The classes are challenging, engaging and never repetitive which is what I enjoy about them the most. In addition to exercising three days a week, I started to become more conscious of what I ate, how much I ate, and when I ate it. Of course, every day is a struggle, some days I want to indulge and eat terrible things and some days I don’t have the motivation to attend classes but when ever I fall short I dig deep to get back on track and that’s what its all about. Here are a few tips that I’m sharing to help you jumpstart your fitness journey for 2018.
- Get active! You’ve go to start the race in order to compete. According to research, 30 minutes of exercise a day can help you feel better, improve health markers, and burn calories.
- Find the exercise that’s right for you. Explore different options and try different classes until you find something that will keep you motivated. Groupon.com is an awesome outlet to find and purchase deals on fitness classes.
- Eat right. Be conscious about what you eat as you try to make healthier eating choices. Maintaining a proper diet is essential to sustaining a healthy lifestyle and reaching fitness goals.
- Be consistent. Keep it going, consistency is key! Once you have determined what works best for you and you have come up with a routine, stick with it. Get an accountability partner if needed and hold each other accountable for reaching your fitness goals.
Best wishes on getting this year off to a positive and active start.
