Harvest Time

Harvest Time

As I walked up the stairs to my apartment on Sunday afternoon, I noticed a beautiful tree in the distance. The leaves on the tree were filled with hues of golden yellow and bright oranges that ignited that warm feeling of fall within. I paused for a moment to indulge in the sight and smiled to myself as I continued to walk down the hall to my door. I then began to think about the new season upon us and the phrase harvest time came to my mind. Coincidentally, that was one of the songs that I had heard at church earlier. I recalled how the lyrics to the song expressed ‘I’m patiently waiting to receive my blessings; for the harvest is nigh.’ For anyone unfamiliar with farming, harvest time marks the end of a growing season. During harvest time, all the ripe crops that were planted months ago are gathered and suitable for eating and selling.

I then reflected on the parallel of farming and life as that song played over in my mind. I thought, about how we are the farmers, and the crops represent our plans, dreams, and goals. And I’m not sure about you, but this farmer has faced a tough growing season this year. Some of my crops got flooded and at other times the soil was too dry for them to grow. Some were stricken with disease, a few were eaten by rodents and a few were just bad to begin with. However, the crops that did survive are almost ripe and at the soon appointed time will be ready for harvesting.

Then a comforting feeling came over me, but this time it wasn’t the feeling of fall. It was the joy and peace of knowing that in spite of all of the challenges I’ve faced this year, God is still on my side and harvest time is near!

Galatians 6:9 encourages us to “not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” I don’t know what trials you may be facing in your season of growth, but hang in there, harvest time is near!
Sparkly yours,
